This past weekend, the Annual Derrick Michael Armstead Memorial Basketball Tournament had taken place in Harlem. Who is Derrick Michael Armstead? Better known as Bloodshed, he was a member of the rap group,”Children of the Corn” along with Camron, Mase, and Big L. He was killed in 1997. The teams playing at the celebrity tornament were Dip Set vs. Quiet Storm. Celebrities in attendance included Jim Jones, DJ Clue, Noreaga, Yung Berg, and Freaky Zeaky. The movie “The Dry Land” is about a U.S. soldier returning home from war and is struggling to reconcile his experiences abroad with the life and family he left in Texas. The cast consists of America Ferrera, Wilmer Valderrama, and more. It will be opening in select theaters throughout the country. This weekend, the film premiered at the Colony Theatre in Miami. The World Basketball Festival is brought together by Converse, the Jordan Brand, and Nike Basketball. The tip off took place on Thursday and showcased the 2010 USA Basketball National Team on court at Radio City Music Hall, followed by a performance by Jay-Z. Earlier in the day, players ran skills and drills with local kids. The celebration in New York will end at Madison Square Garden on Sunday for the tip off of USA vs France at 1PM.
